Biography of
Marilyn J. Young, PhD
Marilyn J. Young debated for Florida State as an undergraduate in the early 1960s. After graduating Cum Laude and then earning her PhD from the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Young returned to Florida State as a speech communication faculty member and coached the Florida State Debate Team from 1972 until 1985. She has been a tireless advocate for the team ever since throughout her years as an administrator, an honored professor, and now in retirement as professor emerita and public intellectual. She established the Marilyn J. Young Debate Endowment Fund in 2014 and continues to work hard raising money to ensure that future generations of Florida State students will continue to have the opportunity to debate.
