Alethea Smith, A.B.
Alethea Elizabeth Smith was the very first Florida State Debate Coach. She joined the faculty of the Florida State College for Women as an instructor in the Spoken English Department after having earned her A.B. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1928, she taught the new 300 level Argumentation and Debate class and started the intercollegiate team teaching a 400 level class that required try-outs to make the competitive team.
