The Florida State College for Women
Debate Coach
1938 - 1944
Margaret Wyly
Lulu Margaret Wyly, B.S. was an instructor in the Speech Department who taught 310a Argumentation and Debate in its second year in the curriculum and included argumentation and debate instruction in her 301 Public Speaking course as well (1936 - 1937). After the student senate subsumed the N.S.F.A. and the debaters decided to form the Debating Club, Wyly became a faculty sponsor of the club along with Sadie Young, a faculty member from the Economics and Commerce Department with assistance from the Head Librarian, Louise Richardson. Wyly and Young helped the debaters to form the Delta Epsilon Alpha "Strawberry Leaf" debate honorary and sponsored the club variously known as the Debate Committee, the Debators' League, the Debaters' League, and the Debate Club until limited wartime resources eliminated their ability to travel to tournaments.
