Alumni Matter: Larry Bodkin '86 & Joy Lynn Fields '86

Congratulations to Florida State Debate alum LARRY BODKIN ’86! Larry just completed his PhD in Communication Theory and Research. Larry and his partner JOY LYNN FIELDS ’86 debated for Marilyn Young in in the mid-1980s. Pictured here are Marilyn, in her full regalia as the Wayne C. Minnick Professor of Communication, Emerita and Dr. Jay Rayburn, Larry’s doctoral advisor. 
Larry was the President of FSU’s Student Senate in 1986 and graduated with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree also in Communication Theory and Research. After establishing a successful career in business as President/CEO of Bodkin Management and Consulting, LLC (BMC), Larry returned to FSU to study small group theory and is a Visiting Professor at Flagler College Tallahassee in Strategic Communication.
JOY LYNN FIELDS ’86 graduated from FSU with a B.S. in Communication and went on to earn credentials from Cornell and Dartmouth University. She is currently President/CEO of Joy Lynn Inc., a qualitative research consulting firm in Atlanta, GA. In 2013, Enterprising Women Magazine chose Joy Lynn as an Enterprising Woman of the Year in the same year that she won the Gold Stevie Award for Women in Business.
